Lance Harter Era

The Lance Harter Era Scholarship, funded by Alumni from 1976 to 1981, is awarded annually to a female athlete, as chosen by the Coaching Staff.

Coach Harter, along with his assistant coaches and support staff, graduated over xx athletes. He was the first coach dedicated to the womens program. In 19xx Coach Harter was hired by the University of Arkansas. At that time Coach Deanne (Johnson) Vochatzer took over the women’s

Lance Harter coached the Mustang women's cross country team to eight consecutive NCAA Division II titles (1982-89) and five national Division II track titles (1982-84, 1989-90). Harter was Division II national coach of the year 10 times. 

Under Coach Harter, Poly was THE dominant school at the Division II level. Mulitple National Titles, All Americans, and Olympians came through Cal Poly under his tenure.
